After deciding college was not for me, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1965. I spent four years in the military, the last one in Pleiku, Vietnam. I was wounded, fixed up and honorably discharged in May of 1969. Several months later I met my wife and in 1970 we were married. I decided college was for me and enrolled in Montclair State College (now Montclair State University) and graduated in 1975 with a masters in Social Science. I also became the father of a baby girl.. During a short career in sales with Xerox Corporation, I bought a condemned Victorian house in Montclair, NJ, moved into it with my small family, and began to restore it. It was the beginning of my love of houses, and of that one in particular, which became the family homestead where all the children’s (I now also had a baby boy) growing up took place. It also led me to start restoring houses for a living, which I did until 1992, when I took the real estate course and became an agent for Weichert in Upper Montclair. I liked it from the start--it was a great mix of my fondness for houses and my sales instincts. I became a manager for Weichert in their Union office in 1995. Union was a good office to cut my teeth on because it was busy all the time and I learned something everyday about the how to manage—sometimes through my own mistakes. But I left the Union manager’s desk and Weichert in 2000 when a more lucrative manager’s position did not materialize and I became an agent at Schweppe & Co. Realtors back in Montclair. There was one more stint as a sales agent at the West Orange Weichert office, and then on to Rhodes Van Note & Company in Upper Montclair where I am today. Working at Rhodes, VanNote & Co. is a treat. I’ve had the chance to work for several companies in management & sales and I know how special, unusual & effective this independent company is. I bring considerable experience to share & bear on my transactions at RVN. As a manager I supervised over 3,200 transactions on both sides of the deal. The insight this experience conveys has been very helpful in the extremely competitive marketplace. My knowledge of construction and restoration also brings benefits to my clients.
